From Crisis to Care: Building peer support and

self-care practices

3-hour workshop

We don't often think of the extra stressors that peer support members have. In addition to the regular stress of the job, they also take on the stress of others. In this workshop, peer support members learn the extra tools and techniques it takes to be resilient while performing the rewarding work of a peer support team member.

Objectives:

  • Identify the additional stressors of peer support members.

  • Discuss ways to build resiliency for non-controllable stressors.

  • Determine individual resiliency level.

  • Discuss self-care and identify what self-care means to each student in the workshop.

  • Discuss ways to mitigate or eliminate the added stressors of peer support members.

  • Build an individualized, preventative mental health plan.
